  Summary of activities 

 

In the 24th of October, 2004 Movement for Green Bulgaria announced the start of its first initiative – GREEN BOOK OF BULGARIA. It have for an object to collect information from all over the country about ecological problems in different regions.Our specialist generalized the information, they made an expertise and they showed some possibilities of solving the described environmental issue. 

GREEN BOOK was delivered to the President, Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Bulgaria.

In September 27th, 2004 Movement for Green Bulgaria made and sent a Memorandum to the Bulgarian Parliament, with demand of changes which insist on:

*      Changing the normative regulation on purpose to ensure the legal guarantees for information access for the citizens on the environmental status.

*      An access to justice in environmental issues, because our present legal regulation doesn’t make any provisions for such cases, that the citizens can attacked in legal proceedings against actions or inaction of the authorities, a legal entities and natural persons, that have bed ecological effect on society as a whole.

In November 25th, 2004 Movement for Green Bulgaria organized a National conference, on a subject “Defense or rescuing of Bulgarian nature on the way to EU”, in with took part leader scientists in the field of ecology, membership of Parliament, officers from government administration, non-profit ogranizations and etc.

After the Movement for Green Bulgaria organized a great number of protests of local communities and attracted the notice of lead media in the country, in December 7th 2004 on the meeting with Minister of Environment and Water, Movement for Green Bulgaria set stopping of non-ecologically production of “Briquelle”, works Radnevo till the building of a new cinder depot.

In January 2005 Movement for Green Bulgaria experts took part in a work meeting of Interdepartmental commission to the Council of Ministers of Republic of Bulgaria, made specially to solve the problems of people and environmental health in the city of Parvomay, witch are the results of the factory’s work of “ADF Bulgaria” Ltd, a ”De Lavren factory” Department.

In the city of Parvomay was lead the meeting of the entire community attended by the municipal management of the town, representatives of Movement for Green Bulgaria and citizens. Associate professor d-r Luybomir Mechkarov, the Chairman of the Movement, called the citizens to demand their rights and to insist on observing Europeans ecological standards of foreign investors. Then the citizens decided to attacked the complex license of “ADF-Bulgaria” Ltd against their activity – wool processing. The citizens decided to set up individual civil claims.

In January 25th 2005, Movement for Green Bulgaria started a protest subscription against the Permanent store-house for radioactive waste enlargement in the village Novi Han.

In January 30th 2005 Movement for Green Bulgaria and local residents of municipality of Elin Pelin called hold a protest meeting against the “Permanent store-house for radioactive waste” enlargement in the village of Novi Han.

By insistence of Movement for Green Bulgaria a meeting with Minister of Energy and Energy resources was carried out in February 13th, 2005. Movement for Green Bulgaria representatives make the Minister acquainted with citizens’ troubles in connection with the permanent store-house for radioactive waste enlargement in the village of Novi Han.

As a result of this meeting, Minister issued the following order:

*      Not to be enlarged the permanent store-house for radioactive waste in the city of Novy Han.

*      The PHARE funds, which are provided will be used only for additional safeguard of the existing store-house.

*      The Ministry of Energy and energy resources is going to create a permanent center for current information in the village of Novy Han, which will give the authentic and expert information about status of permanent store-house on request. To be assured a periodic access to the store-house to the interested citizens and organizations.

*      In 2005, Governmental enterprise - “Permanent store-house for radioactive waste” will start work for localize an approach place to build a national store-house for radioactive wastes, according to Europeans standards.

In March 3th, 2005 Movement for Green Bulgaria started a campaign for saving spurs forest in Bistrishko Branishte reserve.

Movement for Green Bulgaria experts took part in a round table, organized by Ministry of Environment and waters, in order a problem to be resolved.

During 2005 Movement for Green Bulgaria works in the following directions:

*        A common project with Council of Ministers of Republic of Bulgaria – “ The way to Europe ”

*        A common activity with Ministry of state policy to disasters and accidents for overcoming the consequences of floods in Bulgaria.

*        A common work with the state enterprise “ Building and Recovery ” in connection with recovery activity after the floods

*        Stopping building concessions that damaged environment – the village of Studena, Pernishko, village of Blatska, Gotse Delchev.

*        Stopping the complex licenses of textiles factories, that contaminate environment /“Mirolio” – Nova Zagora, “Colhida” – Sliven/ in cooperation with Ministry of Environment and waters.

*        Stopping the building of cement factory of “Bawmit” Austria in the town of Kostinbrod, because of non environmental production.

*        Regular activities against the industrial contaminations in the sphere of energy /“Maritsa Istok”, the town of Stara Zagora/, in the field of manure industry /“Neochim”, the town of Dimitrobgrad, “Agropolichim” – the town of Devnia/, in the sphere of chemical industry /”Orgahim”, the town of Ruse/ and in the sphere of pharmacy industry /”Actavista” the town of Dupnitsa /.

*        Stopping the expansion of non environmental production of metallurgic works “Kremikovtsi” near by the town of Sofia.

*        Organization of civil protests against illegal activity of Capital Municipality – Sofia on rubbish collecting and rubbish storage.

*        Ecomonitoring of new American military bases – in cooperation with Ministry of defense.

Movement for Green Bulgaria experts take part in the following institutions:

·        Social Council to the Ministry of state policy to disasters and accidents.

·        Parliament Commission for disasters and accidents to the Parliament.

·        Parliament Commission for complaints and petitions of citizens to the Parliament.

·        Parliament Commission for Environment to the Parliament.

·        Ombudsman of Republic of Bulgaria for complaints of citizens on environmental issues.

·        Ministry of Culture and Tourism for environmental monitoring – measures in tourism.

·        National Office “fire and anti-average safety” in environmental sphere.

·        Municipal government – the town of Sofia, Municipal government – the district of Sofia – ecomonitoring.

·        Commission for environment to Capital Municipality – Sofia

Movement for Green Bulgaria set the task to renaissance the national energy and social spirit for the country environmental status and peoples’ quality of life.
